The local school, Jacinto Collahuazo,in the Amazon community of Puka Chicta lies across the river Napo from another Yanapuma project, Kamak Maki. It is about an hour by pick up truck to the nearest sizeable town with internet and other facilities, Tena, and half an hour from Misahualli, a small town where there are hostals, stores, internet, phones and restaurants.

The school in Puka Chicta has about 200 children between the ages of 5 and 13, with 8 teachers. It has four classrooms and a dining hall and kitchen. Yanapuma volunteers built the new kitchen in June 2008 with an $800 donation for materials. There is also a kitchen garden and medicinal garden behind the school. The school lacks much in the way of educational materials, although past Yanapuma volunteers have raised funds to purchase books and other materials which has improved the situation to a certain extent.

Volunteers are needed to teach English and other subjects at the school, as well as help out the other teachers with their work. There may also be possibilities to get involved in other projects such as construction, maintenance of the kitchen gardens, a women´s agriculture project and a project to bring potable water to the community.

Summer holidays are in July and August.
