 Heath and social work with a centre for family planning, reproductive health and education

Project Location:
Centro Medico de Orientación y Planificación Familiar (CEMOPLAF). Working with 29 medical centres through out Quito, La Sierra, Costa and the Oriente regions of Ecuador
Project Description:

CEMOPLAF provides health services and products with an emphasis on sexual and reproductive health to people of low economic resources, with the aim to improve the quality of life of the people of Ecuador.

The medical centers they work with provide a broad range of general medical and surgical services, including sexual and reproductive health and family planning services. They also provide mobile health services to communities that have difficulty in accessing the centers, including isolated indigenous communities.

In addition, central to the work that CEMOPLAF carries out, are its educational and sexual heath promotion programs. The centre provides clinical services and education programs in sexual and reproductive health for adolescents. They also have implemented a program education about, and prevention of, aids and HIV, with high risk groups including adolescents and sex workers.

Range of Tasks:

The tasks that volunteers undertake with CEMOPLAF depend on their skill set, experience and interests. Students or professional in the fields of medicine, nursing, psychology, health promotion and education or social work can all assist greatly in the work that the organization is carrying out.
