The Fundacion Cecilia Rivadeneira works with very sick children in five different institutions in Quito:

  1. Solca
  2. Baca Ortiz
  3. Hospital Eugenio Espejo
  4. Cruz Roja Ecuatoriana
  5. ABEI

They run the following programs in these institutions:

  1. PLAY WITH ME: A program where volunteers can play with children with cancer, do jigsaw puzzles, paint, etc.
  2. TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF: A program in which volunteers can carry out surveys to find out about the children's state of health, their relationship with their family, their doctor, etc.
  3. WORDS OF ACCOMPANIMENT: A program in which volunteers can read stories to children who are bed ridden.

They also run the following programs outside the same institutions:

  1.  FLIGHT OF THE ANGELS: Twice a month volunteers can take children out of hospital for the day for a change of scenery, to do something fun and interesting.
  2. A DREAM COME TRUE: In this program volunteers can help to make a dream come true for a child with a terminal illness.
  3. DOCTOR SMILE:
  4. CARAVAN OF HAPPINESS: This is a program for children in poor economic conditions on the margins and outside of the city of Quito. It is a program that takes place four times per year.

Volunteers are needed for 3 months and upwards and will be given suitable training by this foundation to take part in various of the above activities and to feel capable of working with these vulnerable populations.

Training will be given in the following areas:

  • Terminal illnesses
  • Children's fears in the face of death
  • Children's rights
  • Art workshops
  • Mask making
  • Clowning
  • Themes related to psychology and psychotherapy

Most volunteering takes place from Wednesday to Saturday.
